Lan City Hand Pulled Noodle sits quietly on Washtenaw Avenue in Ypsilanti, offering a straightforward but focused take on Chinese noodle dishes. The interior doesn’t lean into fancy decor—rather, it feels utilitarian and practical, making it feel like a comfortable spot where the food does the talking.

This restaurant is primarily for those who appreciate the craft of hand-pulled noodles and are after an authentic slurp-worthy experience. The noodles themselves are the star here, fresh and chewy with a texture that clearly comes from skillful hand-pulling, a detail that diners often remark on. The menu offers a range of hearty noodle bowls, from the spicy Chong Qing noodles to comforting pork ribs soup, with a thoughtful variety of dumplings and cold sides that balance the meal without overshadowing the noodles.

The overall vibe is casual and efficient, with fast and attentive service even when the place gets busy—a sign that the kitchen is well-oiled and customers often come here for a reliable meal rather than a leisurely dining excursion. Portions tend toward generous, and flavors are approachable and humble, but there’s a subtle effort to get the broth just right and keep the meat and vegetables fresh and well-prepared. Some might find the broths a touch mild and the dishes slightly oily, but these are offsets to the freshness and satisfying chew of the noodles.

Locals who value authentic Chinese noodle dishes will appreciate Lan City for lunch or dinner, especially if you’re craving something quick, filling, and different from the usual takeout options. It’s less about elaborate plating and more about the core experience of good noodles paired with fresh ingredients. Bringing friends who want a relaxed setting and solid flavors is a good bet, though don’t expect a bustling atmosphere—this is more of a steady neighborhood spot.

My rating system 1. Broth 2. Noodles 3. Meat and veggies Broth is 9, it is missing a bit of flavor, noodles were actually hand pulled, which I love, with the chowieness, it is perfect, and the meat is flavorful and veggies are not over cooked. Absolutely enjoy this place.

Extremely nice and respectful waiter! Apparently, the hand-pulled noodles all come in a single strand which is very cool. The noodles themselves tasted incredible as well!

This place is a solid 4.5 start Asian noodle restaurant. Fresh plates, impressively quick and attentive service. The offerings are mostly big portions, well priced, good ingredients and humble, balanced flavors. I wish dishes had more vegetables (in particular I was craving all types of Asian greens) and were a little less oily. There were plenty of sides... but it was a lot of food. It's conveniently located and has plenty of parking. During my visit the women's toilet was broken.

Not much to look at on the inside, but the food is amazing. The house specia soupl and lo men are our favorites. Noodles are the best around.

This was a great choice when I was looking for a good noodles place! Prices are reasonable, food quality is great, specially the noodles, broth and curry!! The duck meat was good but they only gave three small pieces. The beef slices in the noodles were okay, could have been better. The curry and beef were AMAZING, great flavors! When we asked for takeaway boxes, our waitress put her fingers inside the boxes instead of holding them on the outside! butttt she was very nice, gave me extra broth to take home and guided us through the menu in the beginning, very friendly. She might be unaware of the finger thing, so I hope it gets fixed coz her personality is awesome! Update - Oct 2025 : went there with friends and food was again really really tasty!

Wow, we love this restaurant, The hand pulled noodles are delicious. The atmosphere is modest, very basic. We always get the same waitress and she is fun to watch, super hard-working.

I had lunch here the other day and it was great! Super friendly and helpful staff really added to the experience. I had the spicy chicken and potatoes, very good! Would definitely recommend!
